Made by Fidel and his wife Lorena in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, using the region's iconic Barro Negro (black clay). Fidel has been perfecting this family craft for 50 years, and each piece can take up to 7 days to create. The distinctive sheen and character of this pottery reflect centuries of tradition and ancestral skill.

Please note that as each piece is handmade, slight variations may occur, making every item beautifully unique. Our Barro Negro is Lead free

  • Natural pigments may leave a slight residue when touched, this is normal and not harmful. Hand wash only and let it fully dry before next use. Barro Negro is fired at low temperatures, so it's not suitable for microwave or dishwasher.

Technique: Traditionally made without a potter’s wheel, hand-shaped, burnishing before firing, carved & pierced decoration and stone-polished.

A note from the maker: Every detail on your piece is one of a kind, so please treasure it. The clay from San Bartolo Coyotepec is naturally lead-free, and its signature black colour comes from the traditional firing method – not paint or glaze.
