Handwoven in Chichelalho, San Andrés Larráinzar by Ernestina, this small heart ornament is made from cotton by a weaver whose work is rooted in the telar de cintura tradition of Chiapas.

Taking around two days to complete, each heart features carefully woven patterns and hand-finished tassels that reflect the time, skill and attention involved in its making. In Chiapas, weaving is carried out primarily by women, who use their knowledge and craft to support their households and work as independent makers and entrepreneurs.

Designed to be used as a bag accessory or charm, it can also be hung around the home — on a door handle, wall or hook — adding colour and texture wherever it’s placed.

More than a decorative object, each heart by Ernestina reflects the role of women in sustaining Chiapas textile traditions and supporting themselves through skilled, independent work.
