Handwoven Natural Reed Unicorn Bag – Michoacán, Mexico
Handwoven by Zeferino and his family in Puácuaro, Michoacán, this unicorn bag is made from chuspata — a natural reed that grows along the shores of Lake Pátzcuaro. Light, sturdy, and with a fresh natural fragrance, it's the perfect summer bag.
The chuspata is harvested just once a year, often by elderly craftspeople who know the rhythms of the lake. Each strand is dried in the sun, then moistened before weaving — the weave must be tight and the pattern clean for the bag to hold its shape.
The unicorn, Scotland's national animal, makes this a little nod to home.
Please note: As chuspata is a natural woven fibre, the occasional loose strand is completely normal — part of the charm of something made by hand.
