Chiapas Loom-Woven Purse - Mauve - Chiapas, Mexico

Handcrafted by Flor and her family in San Andrés Larráinzar, in the Tzotzil region of Chiapas, each purse is woven from sturdy cotton threads on a traditional telar de cintura (backstrap loom), a technique passed down to Flor by her grandmother and mother.

Every piece can take days or even weeks to complete, depending on its size. From preparing the warp to weaving the panels, stitching the body and adding the final details, the process unfolds through six careful stages, each guided by patience, skill and deep cultural knowledge.

The result is a beautiful purse that reflects the landscapes and natural surroundings of Chiapas through colour and pattern.

More than just an accessory, each creation by Flor and her family is a celebration of community, heritage and imagination, honouring ancestral Tzotzil weaving traditions.
